This week Danny, Brad and Caroline talk about the history of Wine Week as well as the future of Rose, inbetween talking about the goings on in the wine world this week.
After almost 4 years of Wine Week we’re reached episode 200! (Cue cheers and clapping) With something to celebrate we thought that we would get out from behind the desk and talk about a few wines we would love to open at any big event.
We look at Henschke’s Hill of Grace, the Shiraz from Wendouree, Grosset’s Polish Hill Riesling and couple of old bottles from Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau d’Yquem. Special thanks go out to winehouse.com.au for letting us raid their cellar for the day!.
We are also super excited to announce the brand new Wine Week Radio podcast!
You can subscribe to the Wine Week Radio podcast via iTunes and every week we’ll have a new episode where we look at what’s happening in the wine industry.
This week Danny, Brad and Caroline are joined by special guest Matthew Jukes to talk about charity touch football event Wine Rules as well the other goings on in the world of wine this week.
We like big calls here on Wine Week, and there’s no bigger call than to name a wine as the best single vineyard white wine in the world. That’s exactly the accolade that the Mount Pleasant Lovedale Semillon picked up this week in London at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. After a call like that, we had to check it out.
While no one has ever called the Mamre Brook Shiraz the best wine in the world, we’ve never been unhappy drinking it, and think the new label design is pretty good too.
To round out the week, and our last episode before number 200, we check in with a Chardonnay from Yabby Lake. Tom Carson and the folks from Yabby Lake are taking part in the Wine Rules touch footy competition this weekend in Elwood, so why not drop past and try his wine if you haven’t already had the chance to.

This week Danny, Brad and Caroline are joined by special guest Leanne De Bortoli to talk about charity touch football event Wine Rules as well as the state of the Yarra Valley. They also talk about the other goings on in the world of wine this week.
Some wines disappoint us because they aren’t up to scratch. However Danny is disappointed with our first wine this week for entirely different reason. He’s such a fan of the Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling that he can’t keep the bottles long enough without drinking them! What a problem to have!
To overcome his disappointment we also look at a great everday wine from mighty Barossa producers Torbreck. The Juveniles might have been originally made for a Parisian wine bar, but it’s just at home with Friday night Pizzas.
Lastly we check in with Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards – a winery who we haven’t looked at in a while – and realise we’ve been missing out by not ripping into the bold and stylish HJ Reserve Shiraz.

This week Danny and Brad wonder if it is the fact that Caroline is in Hong Kong that cause the massive jump in prices at the latest Sotheby’s auction of Chateau Lafite Rothschild. They also talk about the other goins on in the world of wine this week.
What’s in a name? When it comes to these wines, quite a lot! The Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Shiraz might not be the most simple name to pronounce, but it definitely ticks all the boxes in terms of quality and price for us.
At Kooyong Estate and Crittenden Estate on the Mornington Peninsula they each offer various wines from different ranges. We check out the Estate Chardonnay from Kooyong and the Los Hermanos Tempranillo from Crittenden to see how they stack up.
This week’s recommendations are:
Torzi Matthews Schist Rock Shiraz 2009 ($17-19)
Kooyong Estate Estate Chardonnay 20077 ($30-$32)
Crittenden Estate Los Hermanos Tempranillo 2008 ($24-27)
