Wine Week 141: The wine is not just a prop!

September 25th, 2009

This week we show that we do actually drink these wines by opening up a lovely riesling from the Clare Valley that took our fancy from the Barry boys. We follow that up with two fantastic bottles of shiraz from the Barossa Valley – from two winemakers in great form who continue the proud tradition of great Aussie shiraz.

This week’s recommendations are:

  • clos Clare Watervale Riesling 2009 ($22-25)
  • Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz 2007 ($25-30)
  • Pirathon by Kalleske Shiraz 2008 ($22-$26)

Wine Week 140: We told you so!

September 18th, 2009

2007 is shaping up as a top vintage for Margaret River, so this week we look at an inexpensive Cabernet Merlot blend from West Cape Howe. It’s a little ripper and really shows how good their 07 reds are. We also look at the 2008 Pinot Noir from Stonier on the Mornington Peninsula. Last year we raved about the 07 vintage, only for the big wine writers to jump on board too! We reckon the old media guys might like this year’s vintage too! To round things out we look at an aged Riesling from Peter Lehmann that isn’t super cheap, but it’s certainly super!

This week’s recommendations are:

  • West Cape Howe Cabernet Merlot 2007 ($15-19)
  • Stonier Pinot Noir 2008 ($23-28)
  • Peter Lehmann Wigan Riesling 2003 ($36-$40)

We follow that up with a great value pinot grigio for the warmer weather, and finally we have a look at a fantastic Tasmanian pinot noir from the talented hands of Stefano Lubiana.
