Wine Week 137: Young Guns

August 28th, 2009

After a big week last week when the annual Young Gun of Wine was awarded, we decided we’d look at three wines from a couple of the finalists. The first is a Pinot Blanc from Franco D’Anna at Hoddles Creek. The next, from the overall winner of the Young Gun trophy Colin McBryde, is a slightly sweet Riesling from his brand Some Young Punks, with the memorable name “Monsters, Monsters Attack!”. Finally we check out a Great Western Syrah (despite what Brad says) from Gary Mills under his super impressive Jamsheed label.

This week’s recommendations are:

  • Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Valley Pinot Blanc 2008 ($20-25)
  • Some Young Punks Monsters, Monsters Attack 2009 ($20-23)
  • Jamsheed Great Western Syrah 2007 ($34-$37)

Cheers… and happy wine buying!
