Wine Week 69: Hand picking three top wines.

April 24th, 2008

This week we look at a shiraz that won’t break the bank, even when you find it on the wine list at the local pub. We also look at a hand-picked riesling from the Clare Valley that helps to make the most of a tough vintage. And we also take a sneak peak at a limited edition shiraz from the Hunter Valley which is due for release in a few weeks.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Seppelt Chalambar shiraz 2005 ($17-25)
  • Knappstein Hand Picked riesling 2007 ($17-23)
  • Thomas Wines Kiss shiraz 2006 ($45-50)

Wine Week 68: Cab, shiraz and sticky.

April 18th, 2008

This week we look at a Cabernet from a region possibly better known for its shiraz, but which certainly hits the mark. We also look at a shiraz from the Great Southern region of Western Australia. In this episode we recommend:

  • Richard Hamilton Hut Block cabernet sauvignon 2006 ($14-17)
  • Cookoothama botrytis semillon 2006 ($20-22)

In this episode we recommend:

Wine Week 66: Watching, waiting and weighing.

April 4th, 2008

This week we check out a wine you might have to watch out for, a wine that should be given time to reach its full potential and a wine for those watching their calorie intake. Firstly we look at an early havest white blend which is low both in alcohol and in calories. The next wine is a brilliant red from a great Barossa producer which may take a little searching to track down, but worth the effort. The the final wine this week is a Cabernet Sauvignon that will benefit from some patient cellaring.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Lindemans Early Harvest semillon sauvignon blanc 2007 ($12-14)
  • Pirathon by Kalleske shiraz 2006 ($20-24)
  • Wolf Blass Grey Label cabernet sauvignon 2006 ($27-40)
