Wine Week 65: Two big reds and an unusual white blend

March 28th, 2008

This week we look at a typically big and rich McLaren Vale shiraz, but our other two wines each have something a bit different to offer. We take a look at a white blend of viognier and pinot gris which comes together nicely, and finally a pinot noir which will appeal to those who like their pinots a bit “bigger” in style.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Penny’s Hill McLaren Vale Shiraz 2006 ($23-27)
  • Heartland Viognier Pinot Gris 2006 ($17-20)
  • Grosset Pinot Noir 2006 ($55-60)

Wine Week 63: Three great dessert wines.

March 14th, 2008

This week we look at three wines perfect for opening up after your main meal is done. The first is a Muscat which is under the vino-lok closure to make sure the wine is at its best. The next is a sweet white made in the style of the great French sauturnes. And it wouldn’t be a dessert wine special without looking at a brilliant fortified from Rutherglen.

In this episode we recommend:

  • All Saints Rutherglen Muscat NV ($18-20)
  • De Bortoli Noble One 2003 750ml ($45-50)
  • Morris Old Premium Tawny Port NV ($45-50)

Wine Week 62: Arguing about wine.

March 7th, 2008

This week Brad and Danny disagree over a wine variety. Brad looks at a New Zealand wine that’s incredibly popular, but Danny isn’t won over. However there are no arguments when it comes to the two reds we recommend. There’s a recently released cabernet sauvignon from Penfolds and a cellar release from Jacobs Creek, both of which are certain to hit the mark.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Penfolds Bin 407 2005 ($30-45)
  • Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc 2007 ($15-20)
  • Jacobs Creek Centenary Hill shiraz 2003 ($40-45)
