Wine Week 60: Less expensive wines from expensive producers.

February 22nd, 2008

In this episode we look at a couple of bargain wines from winemakers who generally offer their wines at much higher prices. We look at a red from a McLaren Vale producer who’s top wines have made a big splash in the U.S. and another from the Yarra Valley from a vineyard well known to lovers of great wine. Both reds are remarkably affordable given the usual prices fetched for the wines from each vineyard. We also look at a Western Australian chardonnay which is a bargain when compared to some of the more expensive varieties from the same region.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Voyager Estate chardonnay 2005 ($30-35)
  • Fox Creek Red Baron shiraz 2006 ($16-20)
  • Yeringberg Young Vines shiraz 2005 ($25-30)
