Wine Week 52: Christmas drinks.

December 21st, 2007

Christmas is a time of cheer, and cheers! This week we look at three wines perfect to help you celebrate the holidays. The first is a moscato that’s a perfect starter if your Christmas day is going to be warm rather than snowy. The next is a big shiraz that would go perfect with those having a big roast on Christmas day. And our final wine is a Hunter Valley semillon that wont break the bank if you need to buy more than one or two bottles to make sure the extended family stay happy. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from WineWeek!

In this episode we recommend:

  • Wirra Wirra Mrs Wigley moscato 2007 ($16-18)
  • Majella shiraz 2005 ($28-34)
  • Tyrrells Lost Block semillon 2005 ($12-17)

Wine Week 51: Three surprise packets.

December 14th, 2007

This week we look at three wines that are good enough to be much better than you might expect. The first is a seriously inexpensive cabernet which is much better than the price tag. The next is a rosé which is different in that it is much drier than your average sweet offering. Our final recommendation is a nebbiolo which stood out at a tasting against much more pricey bottles.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Mike Press cabernet sauvignon 2006 ($10-13)
  • Yering Station E.D. rosé 2007 ($17-20)
  • Luke Lambert nebbiolo 2006 ($33-35)

Wine Week 50: The Best Dozen of ‘07

December 7th, 2007

In this, our 50th episode, we look back at our favourite dozen wines from the past year, and you could win one of two complete sets of the Best Dozen of ‘07!

As always our criteria was to pick our favourite bottles based both on the quality of the wine and value for money. It would have been simple to pick the 12 most expensive wines but we think that there are some absolutely brilliant bargains out there. If a wine is a brilliant drop and is awesome value for money it ranks pretty high with us.

For your chance to win, all you need to do is subscribe to our weekly emails. You can get extra entries into the draw by sending the competition details out to as many friends as you like – for everyone who you refer you’ll get an extra chance to win one of the two Best Dozen of ‘07 packs.
