Wine Week 36: Fathers Day wine ideas.

August 31st, 2007

It’s fathers day this weekend, so we thought we’d bring you three wines that are perfect for celebrating with your dad. The first is a classic shiraz from a producer who have really hit their straps again. The second is a sparkling red which dad could enjoy with bacon and eggs in the morning. The final wine is a Rutherglen fortified, a classic fathers day present for sure!

In this episode we recommend:

  • Redman shiraz 2004 ($15-18)
  • Seppelt Original Sparkling shiraz 2005 ($15-17)
  • All Saints The Keep Tawny Port ($14-16)

Wine Week 34: “Drink it like a Jester would… just for bit of fun!”

August 17th, 2007

Some wines are made for drinking with a serious mindset, others are built for fun with friends. This week we look at a McLaren Vale shiraz that fits perfectly into the second category. We also look at a chardonnay that might be the best mid-priced bottle of that variety in Australia. To round things out we recommend another sweet white from a winemaker with a great reputation world-wide.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Shaw + Smith M3 Chardonnay 2006 ($30-35)
  • Mitolo Jester Shiraz 2005 ($18-25)
  • Torbreck The Bothie 2005 ($16-18)

Wine Week 33: Two unbelievable bargains and another great 04 Coonawarra.

August 10th, 2007

It’s not often that you could grab two wines that each retail under $11 and know that you’re in for some great drinking, but this week we manage just that. The first is a semillon that is so inexpensive you’ll only need loose change to get hold of it. The next bargain is a late harvest semillon which doesn’t overplay the sweetness. And finally we look at another Coonawarra Cab. Sauv. from the great 04 vintage.

In this episode we recommend:

  • Peter Lehmann Barossa Semillon 2005 ($8-10)
  • Kalleske Lorraine Late Harvest Semillon 2006 ($10-12)
  • Rymill Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 ($22-25)
